“I’m a Fire Witch. I. Am. A. Fire. Witch.” Pia worked to process the information as she paced the floor of their hut. “And my family are alive.”

“I am stunned as you are, Pia,” said Fleur.

“So, what does this mean, what does a Fire Witch do? And if my family are still alive, where are they? Nothing’s making sense.”

“My dear Pia.” Malarakin arrived with Max, and Jenny. “This has come as a shock, and I understand that you have many questions. I shall explain, however, first we must isolate ourselves from the outside. Maxwell, please put the enchantments up and seal the entrance.”

“Yes, sir.” Max went outside. A moment later, they heard nothing, and all was pin-drop silence. He came back inside. With a swipe of his hand, the doors to the hut were sealed.

“What I am about to reveal to you is highly secret. The fewer people know about this, the better,” Malarakin said. He sighed heavily. “It’s a burden that you will have to take on your shoulders, I’m afraid.”

Pia and Fleur looked at each other. A cold tinge crept up Pia’s neck. She didn’t like this at all.

“Does aunt Serilda know about any of this?” she asked.

“I have passed the information over to the Elders, your aunt and her friends are with them at this moment. They know you are a Fire Witch, Pia. I expect them to arrive shortly. For now, I will show you the history of the Fire Witches.”

Malarakin gestured towards some chairs, “Let us sit.”

“The more time I spend here, the more surprised I am. I didn’t know shapeshifters existed, let alone do magic!” Fleur exclaimed.

“Within reason,” smiled Jenny. “We aren’t as powerful as witches.”

Malarakin thumped a heavy-looking book onto the table. It seemed ancient, bound in old leather. Faded gold lettering told Pia it was probably used a lot. The thin parchment seemed to have yellowed over the years, and strangely, a golden hue glow emanated from the book.

“I’ve seen a book like this before, is it a witches spell book?” asked Pia. She wondered what the shapeshifters were doing with it, and how they came to it. She tried to read the faded title, but she couldn’t make heads or tails of what it was. It seemed to be written in another language.

“Hey, doesn’t Mum have one like it?” asked Fleur.

“It is indeed a witches spell book, and it has been donated to us through one of our channels. This book is very important. You will learn a lot from it if you let it teach you,” Malarakin said. He opened the book, and the pages flicked over one by one. Eventually, it stopped at a page.

‘The Fire Witch’.

The glow grew brighter and then the words peeled off the pages, rising above them and turning into a moving picture.

“The history of the first Fire Witches dates back to the 15th Century,” Max said. “Legends say the Sun God made them protect the galaxies in each universe. Evil lurked everywhere, and
